Ferret population grows on Park Wind Cave-plainsdaily.com

WIND CAVE NATIONAL PARK, S.D. (AP)--the population of black-foot ferrets in the Wind Cave National Park is about a third larger after the release of 12 ferrets who in captivity. The seven men and five women came out were supposed to be released elsewhere, but officials said disease in these locations decimated the population of prairie dogs, which of the fret main food source. Wind Park Cave in Southwestern South Dakota was an alternative location. The black-foot ferret once was considered extinct, but a captive breeding program managed after a colony of ferrets was discovered in Wyoming in 1981. ferrets were introduced in the Wind Cave in 2007.
